170th Anniversary of Brown's Hotel
The Oldest hotel, along with the oldest jewellery house, helping the youngest of special children to celebrate Brown’s Hotel’s 170th Anniversary
Brown’s Hotel first opened its doors in 1837 as ‘genteel’ accommodation for discerning guests, today 170 years later and having recently overseen a £24 million restoration, Rocco Forte’s Brown’s Hotel is still offering the perfect ‘home away from home’ in the heart of Mayfair, London.
To celebrate their 170th Anniversary Stuart Johnson, General Manager of Brown’s Hotel, commissioned Garrard to create a unique and special necklace, which was designed incorporating inspiration from the hotel’s history. This necklace will be sold through a silent auction later this year. After careful consideration, Brown’s chose WellChild as their charity of choice, due to the outstanding work they do with children. WellChild will receive all proceeds raised from this sale.
Garrard which was established in London in 1735, is thrilled to be involved in this exciting project. Garrard’s in-house design team, together with their workshop, have created a beautiful, one of a kind necklace using the finest 8.91carat Aquamarine and over 3.50 carat of diamonds. The design was inspired by the original Brown’s and St George’s Hotel plaques which still decorate the outside of the hotel today, combined with elements of Garrard’s new Regal collection.
WellChild, which this year celebrates 30 years of helping sick children through care, support and research has recently been chosen as one of Prince Harry’s first charity patronages. Kedge Martin, Chief Executive of WellChild, said ‘we are really delighted to have been chosen by Brown’s to benefit from the auction proceeds of this beautiful piece of jewellry. This fantastic celebration will make a lasting impact to the lives of many sick children’.
The necklace will shortly be on display in a window of Garrard. All bids can be placed directly with the hotel, or through the WellChild website and a silent auction will be held on the 29 November 2007. This necklace surely makes the most worthwhile Christmas present for someone special, knowing that they too are giving the most amazing gift to very special children.
